Camera Work XLVIII, 1916

Is a large format photographer who takes pictures of landscapes and large aquariums which he has built and designed. The aquarium photos are especially interesting because he builds them around live plants, creating a self contained ecosystem.

Part of my Human Conditions series.
Sally Mann is hands down one of my favorite photographers.
Her photos, taken with a large format camera, are amazing. She’s mostly recognized for her third series Immediate Family (1992); consisting of pictures of her three children at their summer home. many thought of this series as controversial, but I say don’t overanalyze the context and just appreciate the photographic creation. (Once I learned how to develop and work in a darkroom I really found a new appreciation for black and white photography, some pictures are so hard to develop right!)
I can’t wait to get my hands on a couple of her books, definitely on top of my list this holiday season!
